February 2014 Newsletter

18th February, 2014

Dear Parent,

We formally remind parents that, the mid-trimester break begins at 14:00hours on Thursday, February 20, 2014 and ends on Monday, February 24, 2014.  Normal academic work will resume on Tuesday, February 25, 2014.

The mid-trimester test papers and results will be released to parents on Thursday, February 20, 2014. Parents are therefore advised to contact the teachers of their ward[s] for collection.

As stated on the calendar of activities, parents/guardians are being reminded that the directive that binds them to make full payment of fees by the resumption of mid-term (February 25, 2014) is still in force. In view of the above, wards of defaulting parents will not be allowed entry into the school till full payment of fees is made.

We, in Angels Specialist School, hold the view that education is not just something a teacher does with his/her students, but rather something that happens in the students.  We are mindful that our teachers should know what their students think, feel and want.  These innovative ideas alongside the very useful suggestions from our supportive parents have always stood us good stead.  Having come through the first half of the second trimester we pause to consider the volume, the intensity and indeed the expectations that lie ahead of us.

The school has successfully registered 65 candidates for the May 2014 Cambridge Primary Checkpoint examinations, scheduled to be taken in April.

Cambridge Primary Checkpoint is designed to help students learn by providing comprehensive feedback on their strengths and weaknesses in the key curriculum areas – English, Mathematics and Science.

The tests are exclusively available to schools that offer Cambridge Primary and are generally taken at the end of the final year of the programme. They are marked by Cambridge and provide schools with an international benchmark for learner performance. Each learner receives a statement of achievement and a diagnostic feedback report, giving schools invaluable information and parents extra trust in the feedback they receive.

Cambridge Primary Checkpoint covers all major areas of learning in the Cambridge Primary curriculum frameworks for English, Mathematics and Science.

Teachers involved in preparing the candidates for the exam are working diligently to ensure exemplary success in this maiden test.

We would like to express our most profound gratitude to parents who through intensified effort are constructively supporting their angels for the upcoming international assessment.

Angels Acquisition of BooksAs per our letter dated 11th December, 2013 under the subject ‘Management’s Resolution on Books’ we wish to inform you that  it is within the first half of the trimester (2nd Trimester) the time for parents to notify the school whether they would want the school to supply books to their wards or prefer to purchase the books elsewhere.

In view of this we have attached a form to be filled and that should inform us about the decision you make on this subject matter. Kindly fill and return the form to the school by the resumption of mid-term.

Angels Bus ServiceThe transport department wishes to inform parents whose children patronize the school transport service that the fare has been increased by a minimum margin (from GH¢150 to GH¢200). This is in line with the increment on the fare being proposed by the transport service providers.

Thank you.
